Government Official States Ministry of Defence Investigating Security Risk from Chinese Cars, with Personnel Told to Avoid Secret Talk in Cars.
A defense official has confirmed that the Ministry of Defence is actively examining the possible threats posed by Chinese vehicles, while personnel have been told to avoid talking about secret matters in all vehicles.
Safety Advice for MoD Staff
In a recently aired interview on LBC, a defence minister commented on reports that MoD officials have been told not to talk about secret information while riding in China-made vehicles.
He said that the MoD is “looking into” Chinese vehicles within its fleets, but stressed that safety is a concern in every contemporary vehicles.
We have a fleet of tens of thousands of vehicles in the MoD and those vehicles represent a very small number.
However whether you’re traveling in a vehicle from China or a non-Chinese car, our instruction to our staff is not to plug MoD technology into their car, not to have discussions at a classified level in any car, due to the increasing risks of surveillance that are present in every single automobile, to restrict those secret talks in protected areas. This is a wise and reasonable thing for anyone concerned about safety.
After it was put to him that it would be wise for the ministry to stop using every cars from China, the minister responded: ‘That’s precisely what we’re investigating at the present time.”
Wider Defence Context
The announcement comes as reports from Scandinavian countries have warned the United Kingdom to the existence of dual-use shutdown mechanisms in Chinese electric buses, which could allow China to switch off public transport and bring chaos to transport systems.
Furthermore, a Russia spy ship has been shining laser beams at RAF pilots, labeled a “highly dangerous” action by defence officials.
The wider security situation underscores the significance of strong protocols and vigilance in every aspects of government operations, from vehicle usage to communication practices.
